Community-Based Extension Program

The Community-Based Extension Program allows resident coworkers in member communities of the Camphill Association in North Americaand the North American Council for Anthroposophic Curative Education and Social Therapy to pursue foundation studies and paraprofessional certification in Curative Education (supporting children and adolescents with disabilities) and Social Therapy (supporting adults with disabilities). Students study through a combination of supervised practice in the context of their communities, attending retreats and workshops with students from other communities, an individualized program of mentored coursework supported through the Camphill School of Curative Education and Social Therapy’s online course management platform and/or local cohort study and coursework.

Qualifications

The first year of full-time study in the Community-Based Extension Program leads to a Certificate in Foundation Studies in Anthroposophic Curative Education or Social Therapy (depending on the emphasis of the student’s work). The Paraprofessional Certificate in Curative Education or Social Therapy is awarded after completion of a further year of full-time practice-integrated study and an additional one-year internship. Transfer into the Curative Education Program at Camphill Special School (Glenmoore, PA) or the Social Therapy Program at Camphill Village USA (Copake, NY) is required for advanced studies leading to the Diploma in Curative Education or Social Therapy.

The program carries college credit recommendations through the University of the State of New York’s National College Credit Recommendation Service (National CCRS, formerly National PONSI), allowing students to receive transferable undergraduate credit. Such credit may be applied towards suitable degree completion programs. If you are interested in pursuing a BA degree via the Camphill School of Curative Education and Social Therapy, please contact us for more information.

Admission

Applications to the Community-Based Extension Program must be submitted on behalf of prospective students by a participating community. If you are interested in studying Curative Education or Social Therapy at a location other than Camphill Special School or Camphill Village Copake, you must first apply to become a resident coworker at a member community of the Camphill Association in North America or the North American Council that will sponsor your studies.
